The greatest enemy to your life

These are my notes from a sermon that helped me a lot, by Cary Schmit
Wrong Music
1 John 4:1-6
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits weather they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the spirit of God: every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh of God:" (vs. 1 and 2)
There are different spirits in the world
Some are of God.
Some directly oppose you and what you stand for.
Who are you of?
"And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God:..." (vs. 3)
The false spirits are of the world. They speak through culture.
And the world hears when they speak.
Entrances to the heart-
What you hear is processed in your brain and sent to your spiritual heart, and it effects you.
It is IMPLANTED in your heart.
"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world" (vs. 4)
The people that are of God hear from a different source
" They are of the world: therefore they speak of the world, and the world heareth them." (vs. 5)
More dangerous than drugs or alchohol. More subtle.
The effects are not apperant, blatant or fast.
The effects of drugs and alchohol are obvious.
The spirits of the world SPEAK, and the world hears them.
The five As of wrong music
1. Attraction- its popular, cool. Most of the time when things are popular they feel right to us
2. Addaptation- it takes some getting used to.
3. Addiction- controlling erge. You crave it.
4. Alteration- changes you. makes you angry.
5. Annihilation- destroies your Christian life.
Everybody but you can see what is and has happened to you.
"We are of God: he that knowethGod heareth us;he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." (vs. 6)

I posted this because I know how satan can tempt Christian teens with music, once you "Addapt" to it, it is so hard to let it go. I gave up wrong music last summer, actualy, I am still giving it up, like I said, I know how hard it can be to let go of. God is showing me what it can do to my life, it really does change you, it destroies you, and makes it hard to serve God once you have let effect you.

  1. This is so true, Brooke! Music is very damaging to your spirit and mind! Brother Mark and I used to listen to only worldly music when we were young. Today when one of those songs is played in a store or restaurant the evil and sinful words are brought to remembrance and it's not a happy experience. Please continue to let God guide you on your music. You will be happy you did. Love and miss you!
